Cruise Planner Agents Visit Costa Rica

In April of 2018, we have the opportunity to visit Costa rica to explore the areas, and immerse ourselves in the culture of this great country.  Flying into Liberia Airport, we were greeted by our VAMOS car company representatives and escorted to their office.  We were on our way with a nice four wheel drive and arrived at Secrets Papagayo Resort in less than thirty minutes.  The roads were great, and were well signed.  The resort was a nice gated and secure environment.  Greeted with cool moist towels, and then treated to a cold beer, we soon completed the check in process.  Our car was parked for us and a shuttle took us to our beautiful "home" as i would call it.  It was a duplex of sorts, nestled in lush plants and trees, and you felt kinda of private!

We enjoyed the meals, and our bartender, William!  The pools were great, one on the wild side, and ours was located in the SPA area and a bit more reserved.  The beach was unique, as the sand was a dark gray, almost black.  Many areas for lounging and the wait staff was moving very quickly to make sure you always had a drink.  We enjoyed the music of the artists that performed, and the shows/dances the entertainment staff put on.  We walked up the mountain to see a spectacular sunset with Adriana, a great employee of the resort, and soon became great friends!

Checking out after four nights at Secrets, we hopped in our car and drove three hours to Arenal. This was a nice drive, taking us past fields of long horn cows, huge wind mills, fantastic views of the Volcano, and a meal along the way that we should have skipped!  Let's say the guy who advertised German food for miles on his billboards is one to maybe pass by.

Arenal Springs Resort

This was another of those resorts that has a duplex type of houses for the guests.  A very nice room with a view of the Volcano out a huge window from our bed!  The pool is fed by the warm spring water.  The top pool area is 38 degrees celsius, and the next pool area was a bit cooler, working your way down to a bigger pool that was warm.  Swim up bars and music, waterfalls, and jets around the perimeter, and a lot of lizards!  The next morning we were up early and on the hunt for Sloths, with our tour guide, Oscar.  He was great and we located several right away.  Since they don't travel far, it was probably easy for the guides to locate them!  He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot.

We visited the lava fields of Arenal Volcano, walked the swinging bridges in the rainforest, and climbed down 550 steps to a waterfall!  We still had time to enjoy the local cuisine in town and met many new friends.  Leaving Arenal we traveled on the many winding roads through the mountains to reach San Jose.  There we boarded our plane and returned home.  The airport in San Jose was clean and efficient.

This was a great trip and I will have some photos posted to the site.
